Gwen Caldwell
For nearly 20 years Gwen has enjoyed sharing stories with groups of all ages at schools, churches, bookstores, conferences, festivals, and retreats throughout the country. Often using music and audience participation, she enlivens stories from around the world as well as telling original and personal stories. Much of her work is with children and teens but she also enjoys sharing the joy of stories with adults. Gwen has created a series of adult programs entitles "Stories for the Second Half of Life," and has recorded a CD of personal stories called, "The Lime Green Truck and Other Stories of Remembrance."
Gwen has taught in both public and private schools, adult literacy programs, and in her own piano studio. These experiences enable her to create and teach meaningful storytelling workshops to a variety of groups.
Gwen founded the North Forty Storytellers' Guild. She is also a member of Tejas Storytelling Association and was once again selected as a touring artist on the roster for the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Jiaan Powers
"Come listen with your heart, and let your mind sing and dance with the words of the storyteller." - A master teacher with twenty-two years teaching experience in the public schools, Jiaan currently tells stories to audiences of all ages, and designs and conducts storytelling workshops. Ann Marie Newman
Ann Marie Newman is a high-energy storyteller with a performing arts background. She has been enthusiastically telling tales to listeners of all ages for over 13 years. Ann's use of character voices, facial expressions, body language, sound effects and audience interaction will draw you right into her diverse collection of tales.
Ann Marie has entertained audiences at community events, art museums, storytelling festivals, libraries, schools, churches and various other venues in Florida and Texas. As an experimental and multi-media artist, Ann Marie's visual art reflects her love of stories. It is not unusual to find words, quotes, or poems that speak directly to you.. Says Ann, "I love to awaken my listeners to the imaginative and delightful world of stories. I hope I can inspire them to explore their own creative potential while I'm at it."
Genie Hammel
Accompanied by her puppets and autoharp, “The Magic Genie” brings the delight and magic of stories to audiences of all ages. As a children’s librarian for twenty years, Genie had the ideal audience and plenty of resources to hone her energetic and interactive style of storytelling. She loves to tell folktales, stories that make you laugh, and stories that find a resting place in the hearts of her audience. Genie has told stories at many venues, including the Texas Storytelling Festival, the Dallas Museum of Art, various public and school libraries, The Blackland Prairie Festival, and the TX Tales Festival. Her weekly stories at the Plano Interurban Museum invite the children to “climb aboard” the story train!
